A deposit of 15% of the tuition is due upon signing of the enrollment contract. The balance of the tuition may be paid through one of the following options:

  1. Lump Sum Payment: The balance of the tuition due is paid by July 15, 2008. An advance payment discount of 1.5% is offered with this payment option. Tuition refund insurance is available but not required under this payment plan.
  2. Deferred Payment Plan: Tuition is paid in three equal installments: 33% by July 15, 2008, 33% by September 1, 2008 and 33% by November 1, 2008. This plan requires the purchase of tuition refund insurace.
  3. Ten Month Plan: Tuition may be paid over 10 equal monthly installments beginning July 15, 2008 and on the 15th of each month thereafter through April 15, 2009. This plan requires the payment of carrying charges of 12% on the balance of tuition owed for the year. This plan requires the purchase of tuition refund insurance.

Tuition covers textbook rental, workbooks, accident insurance, supplies, art supplies, and in-school activities. The lunch program is extra. A menu is provided each month allowing students the option of bringing their own lunch.

Payment of tuition installments does not constitute a partial year contract. Students are admitted for the entire year only, and no rebates can be given for absences, withdrawal or dismissal. However, students admitted during the school year will have their tuition pro-rated accordingly.

The Tuition Refund Plan (tuition insurance) is available and required for families opting for the deferred payment plan and the monthy payment plan. Although it is optional under the lump sum plan, this insurance is strongly recommended for all families. The plan will reimburse a portion of tuition costs for absences exceeding one week due to medical illness or relocation. The cost is 2% of the annual tuition.

Financial Aid

The Melrose School awards financial grants on the basis of need and the availability of funds. We use the services of the School and Student for Financial Aid (SSSFA) in Princeton, New Jersey. To receive a financial aid application, please contact the Admission Office and a form will be mailed to you.

Financial aid is not awarded to pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students. Signed IRS forms, non-custodial parent’s financial statements, and business/farm statements should bemailed to Melrose by March 15, 2008. The Parent Financial Statement (PFS) should be mailed directly to SSS by March 1, 2008. Financial aid decision letters are mailed home on April 1, 2008. Please note that all admission decisions are made without regard to financial need.

Annual Giving and Fundraising

As with all independent schools, tuition alone does not cover the full costs of educating a child. Annual giving dollars and fundraising events add substantially to Melrose’s operating budget and help bridge the gap between tuition and the actual expenditures incurred to run the school. In addition, Melrose has embarked on a capital improvement program to expand and enhance the school facilities for the benefit of our children. It is expected that every family is committed to Melrose and will support the annual giving program.
