The Melrose School

A Message From Our Headmaster - Diane Cikoski

October ended with a rush of activity – welcome to November – it is not likely to get any slower … and we wouldn’t want it any other way!

If you came to the Holiday Boutique, perhaps you have already gotten a jump on the festivities yet to come. However, whether or not you shopped for gifts, it was a wonderful event and I look forward to it being repeated next year. Thank you to all who made this event happen and to all who supported it.

Conference day was well attended. We thank you for the opportunity to speak with you about your children and their progress. We hope you also found it helpful in determining how to support your children as they move toward the completion of this first academic term. (Term ends November 25th.)

The Fire Safety program was quite spirited – and the opportunity to climb in the trucks, hold the water hose, and watch teachers be hoisted up into the air was great fun perhaps even more fun for those teachers – myself included!)

We have some great soccer-playing parents! The annual Red-White Game and Picnic were again wonderful events: lots of laughs, lots of spirits, lots of food.

Then there was Halloween! We had a wonderful time watching the PK – Grade 4 students in the annual Melrose School Halloween Parade.

Looking forward – we enter the time for giving . . . and graciously receiving. Our service groups will be offering opportunities for helping those less fortunate; our communities will be doing the same. We will even have opportunities that help ourselves, such as the sales to raise money for the class trips to Williamsburg and Montreal/Quebec. We invite you to participate in all that interests you, but please also be aware that we understand the many requests you will receive. We do receive information from time to time and we will display it for your consideration. One such is the upcoming Festival of Trees to benefit Ann’s Place in Danbury, Nov. 21-23. It even features a LEGO Artists Challenge for students in K-12!

There is much to be thankful for as we progress to Thanksgiving – starting with our children. May we be remembering that, even as the month threatens to overwhelm us with all its demands and activities.
