Joe Dryer Named VFW Teacher of the Year
Joe Dryer has been named the VFW Brewster Post 672 Teacher of the Year. Mr. Dryer, a member of the Melrose faculty for 10 years, is a diversely talented educator, teaching both mathematics and social studies at the Upper Common level and coaching the varsity soccer and basketball teams. Recently, he was appointed as the School’s Social Studies coordinator. He also serves as a homeroom teacher and middle school advisor.
Mr. Dryer has also served as the advisor of our Student Council, an organization that plans dances and other social events at school and sponsors community service activities such as food drives and highway clean-ups. Last fall, Mr. Dryer helped to organize our Student Council leaders as they planned and put on a special Veterans’ Day luncheon to honor their parents or grandparents who had served as veterans. In addition, veterans from the local community were also invited to attend the luncheon. On November 14th The Melrose School Student Council hosted a wonderful Veterans’ Day tribute and provided our students with an opportunity to show respect for and learn from their elders. It was a memorable event.
All of us at Melrose are so very proud of Mr. Dryer’s achievement and wish to thank Arthur Hanley, Commander VFW Post 672 for this honor.
